Service
Every Shuangshi blade is hand-forged in Lingnan by craftsmen carrying a tradition that began in 1796. This page explains how to care for your knife, what our warranty covers, and how our after-sales process works — so your blade stays sharp for generations.
1. Knife Care Guide
A few simple habits will keep your hand-forged blade performing for decades.
First use
- Wash the blade with warm water and mild soap before first use to remove any protective oil.
- Dry immediately with a soft cloth — never air-dry a forged blade.
Daily cleaning
- Hand-wash only. Dishwashers will damage the handle, temper the edge, and void the warranty.
- Wipe the blade with a damp cloth right after use — acidic foods (tomato, citrus) should be rinsed off quickly.
- Dry thoroughly before storing.
Oiling & rust prevention
- Carbon steel blades: apply a thin coat of food-grade mineral oil (or camellia oil) every 2–4 weeks, or whenever the blade will sit unused for a few days. A light patina is normal and protective — it is not rust.
- Stainless / clad blades: oil once a quarter is enough; wipe dry after each use.
- If orange rust appears, rub gently with a cork and a little oil — it lifts off easily when caught early.
Sharpening
- Hone lightly with a ceramic rod every 1–2 weeks to realign the edge.
- Re-sharpen on a whetstone (1000 grit then 3000–6000 grit) every few months, or when the blade stops gliding through tomato skin.
- Sharpening angle: 15–17° per side for slicing knives, 20–22° per side for cleavers.
- We recommend finding a local professional sharpener for major regrinds — international return shipping for sharpening is not practical.
Storage
- Store on a magnetic strip, in a blade guard, or on a wooden block — never loose in a drawer where edges chip against each other.
- Keep out of humid environments and away from salt air if possible.
2. Craftsmanship Warranty
We stand behind the forging of every blade we ship.
Warranty period: 1 year from the delivery date.
What is covered
- Blade cracking or splitting along the forging fold.
- Handle detachment or loose tang under normal use.
- Delamination of clad steel.
- Forging defects visible at delivery (severe warps, inclusions).
What is not covered
- Edge dulling, chips, or tip breakage from normal use, drops, cutting on hard surfaces (glass, stone, metal), or frozen food.
- Rust or patina — these are characteristics of forged steel, not defects.
- Handle wear, discoloration, or damage from dishwasher use.
- Damage from improper sharpening.
